Oceania, distant and francophone land

Oceania may seem far from France, but it hosts a historic and growing French community. Australia has around 30,000 French nationals, mainly in Sydney and Melbourne. New Zealand hosts 5,000, scattered between Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. And let's not forget the French territories of the Pacific: French Polynesia (300,000 francophone inhabitants) and New Caledonia (270,000 inhabitants) — which are not strictly expatriation, but which share French culture.

This French diaspora of Oceania is unique. It left far, often lastingly. For professional reasons (tech, finance, research, medicine), for the outdoor lifestyle, for family choices, or simply out of a desire for horizons. In Sydney, the French work in finance and tech. In Melbourne, in media and the arts. In Auckland, in digital and hospitality. These French have one thing in common: they live on the other side of the world, but maintain a strong link with France.
