RMF in the Americas

A French radio.
For the French in the Americas

From Montreal to New York, from Toronto to Miami, from Mexico City to São Paulo — the radio that accompanies the French of the American continent, 24/7, where France seems far but remains alive.

Why RMF in the Americas

The Americas, French expatriation territory

The Americas are home to a considerable French community. Canada alone has more than 150,000 French nationals, mainly concentrated in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. The United States host around 200,000, distributed between New York, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, and New Orleans. Not to mention Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru — countries where French people have settled for work, family, adventure, or the simple desire for elsewhere.

This diaspora is unique. It has emigrated far, often lastingly, sometimes permanently. In Quebec, many have obtained dual nationality. In the United States, H1-B and O-1 visas are part of common vocabulary. In Brazil or Argentina, French communities are old, rooted, sometimes spanning multiple generations. All these French of the Americas share one thing: distance from France never erases cultural attachment.

This is where RMF makes full sense. Born in Montreal in 2017, the radio has addressed the French of the American continent from the start. Today, it accompanies the banker in Toronto as much as the chef in Miami, the exchange student in Mexico City, or the family settled in São Paulo for ten years.

Listening moments

RMF accompanies the French of the Americas

Living in the Americas means dealing with the time difference, longer days, often car commutes. RMF adapts to these rhythms — your French programming, on your local time.

Local morning

Coffee and the car

In Montreal, New York, Mexico City, Buenos Aires — every morning starts with a commute. RMF accompanies this moment: French radio at the wheel, on the metro, at the coffee shop before the office. A cultural landmark before tackling the North American day.

Local noon

The lunch break

For French people working in Toronto, San Francisco, or Miami, the lunch break is often short. Twenty minutes of RMF in the background is enough to reconnect — Un jour dans l'histoire, the horoscope, a French song that recalls where you come from.

Local evening

With family, in the kitchen

In the evening, RMF becomes a family radio. For children born in Canada, the United States, or elsewhere, French music at home is a transmission thread. Goldman after Polo & Pan, Cabrel after Pomme — France is lived in the kitchen, without formality.

Friday night

The weekend kickoff

From 8pm Paris time (afternoon in North America), 70's-80's takes the air. At 10pm Paris time, Party starts. Perfect for drinks with French friends in Toronto, evenings in New York, summer barbecues in Montreal.

Weekend

Trips and outings

A weekend at the chalets in the Laurentians, a getaway in the Hamptons, a road trip in California. RMF keeps you company during the long American distances — those roads where radio takes on its full meaning.

24/7

At night, the time difference

For insomniacs in Vancouver, those who come home late in New York, those who remote-work with France from Mexico City. RMF runs without interruption — non-stop music to fill the offset hours.

Living in francophone America

Expatriating, working, living in the Americas

Preparing to leave? Just arrived? Living in the Americas for years? Here are the main destinations for the French in the Americas — and how RMF accompanies you, wherever you are.

Moving to Quebec: the top French destination in the Americas

Quebec is home to more than 100,000 French nationals, making it the leading francophone expatriation destination in North America. Montreal concentrates the essentials — entrepreneurs, creatives, engineers, students, bicultural families. Language proximity, quality of life, administrative ease (specific immigration programs) make it a privileged landing point.

It's also RMF's historic birthplace. The radio was born in Montreal in 2017, made by and for the French of Quebec — before reaching globally.

Living in New York: the French in Manhattan and Brooklyn

New York has nearly 40,000 French nationals, mainly in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Finance, media, fashion, gastronomy, arts — the sectors where the French excel. H1-B visa, intra-company transfer, marriage to an American, Talent program — the paths to settle in NYC are multiple but demanding.

For the French in New York, RMF is a daily anchor. A French radio to listen to in the subway, at the office, coming home to Brooklyn in the evening.

Moving to Canada: Toronto, Vancouver and beyond

Beyond Quebec, anglophone Canada attracts more and more French nationals. Toronto, economic and financial capital, hosts a growing French community. Vancouver attracts tech and eco profiles. Calgary and Edmonton offer opportunities in energy. Canada remains one of the most administratively accessible countries for the French.

Whether in Toronto or Vancouver, RMF remains your daily link to France — live or in podcasts.

Settling in Miami: the French community of southern US

Since 2020, Miami has become a fast-growing destination for the French — entrepreneurs, active retirees, families seeking sun. The French community now reaches 30,000 people. Pinecrest, Sunny Isles, Aventura — the neighborhoods are becoming Frenchified. Tax advantages, climate, proximity to France and Latin America make it a sought-after destination.

The Miami sun does not erase France. RMF accompanies this new French community in the southern United States.

Living in Mexico City or Latin America

Latin America attracts the French for multiple reasons: diplomatic missions, entrepreneurial projects, advantageous remote work, lifestyle choices. Mexico City, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Lima, Bogotá, Santiago concentrate stable French communities. Spanish or Portuguese still needs to be learned, but welcoming Latin culture facilitates integration.

For the French in Latin America, RMF is a daily francophone bubble — especially in areas where French culture is rarer.

The French in San Francisco and the American French Tech

Silicon Valley has several thousand French nationals — engineers, startup founders, investors, designers. San Francisco, Palo Alto, Mountain View host a very active French tech diaspora, structured around the local French Tech. Expatriation opportunities are numerous but the cost of living is among the highest in the world.

For the French tech community in Silicon Valley, RMF brings a precious cultural counterpoint — beyond algorithms and code.

Living in Los Angeles: the French community of the West Coast

Los Angeles has a significant French community, estimated at over 30,000 people — concentrated mainly in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and Manhattan Beach. Cinema, fashion, tech, gastronomy, luxury real estate — the French of LA work in creative or entrepreneurial sectors. The French ecosystem is structured: French school, chamber of commerce, French Tech LA, regular cultural events.

For the French in Los Angeles, RMF is a natural complement to California life — a francophone bubble between two meetings and three trips on the freeways.

Settling in Vancouver: the French on the Canadian Pacific coast

Vancouver has attracted the French for 15 years — for the quality of life, accessible nature, the tech ecosystem, and Canadian openness. The French community in British Columbia grows steadily, mainly downtown, in Kitsilano, in North Vancouver. The strong sectors: tech (presence of Microsoft, Amazon, Google), cinema ("Hollywood North"), tourism, ecology.

For the French in Vancouver, RMF is a daily landmark — with the time difference with France, French radio is enjoyed on delay, in podcasts, or live in the early Pacific morning.

Living in Boston: the French academic and medical community

Boston hosts a highly qualified French community, structured around Harvard, MIT, and the major university hospitals. Researchers, doctors, post-docs, engineers, students — the French of Boston number nearly 10,000 people, many on temporary mobility (1 to 5 years). The International School of Boston accompanies bicultural families.

For this French academic community, RMF is a precious cultural thread — between long research sessions and rigorous New England winters.
